Family Business is the best
way to describe the RFH Company. If you are part of the family you work
for the business. Co-Owners Don and Audrey Billmeyer started RFH Company
in the summer of 1974 knowing that there was a market for the personalized
touch. They moved their seven children to the peace and quiet of New
Hampshire to live their dream. The beginnings were meager, just two hand
embroidery machines, but the family pitched in and got the work done.
From the start family worked for RFH, whether it was counting inventory,
waiting on customers or doing the sewing, there was always a Billmeyer
around.
In the summer of 1977 the Billmeyers had enough of
the very long New Hampshire winters and the whole family moved back to
Norwalk, Connecticut, the place where Don had grown up. The family and
the business were now growing. The equipment and the volume of business
changed as more corporate customers arrived, but RFH never forgets the
individual customers who stop in to visit and place their order. As the
Billmeyer girls married and started their own families they would come
back to work with the babies in tow. You could count on seeing a baby
in a playpen when you came in to place an order. All of the Billmeyer
children, six girls and one boy, have worked or are working at the factory
on Rockland Road in Norwalk.
In May of 2005 Co-Owner Don Billmeyer passed away after
a short illness. And in January of 2006, Audrey reunited with her husband.
The business remains on Rockland Road in Norwalk and whether it’s
taking an order, customer service, shipping or sewing you can be sure
to find a Billmeyer there. Stop in for a visit or call and place your
order with RFH Company, a true family business.
